Wash U Mock Trial wishes everyone a happy Thanksgiving and a great break! We are thankful for having a great first semester and 12 incredible, new freshmen (The returners are okay too).
WUMT sent two teams to Rhodes's scrimmage, the Blues City Challenge. The program finished in 1st and 2nd place, taking home a plaque featuring none other than the King of Rock himself, Elvis. Lauren Spungen and Laura Zimmermann took home witness awards, with Spungen being the first freshman to win an individual award this year. Sophomores Erin Gaffaney, Jake Price and Gianna Santoro received attorney awards and were the three top-ranked attorneys at the tournament!
WUMT attended the Great American Mock Trial Invitational (GAMTI), a prestigious invitational tournament, this past weekend. The team had four solid rounds against the University of Virginia, Yale, Northwood and Rhodes. We had a great time in Washington DC and thank the University of Virginia for hosting a fantastic tournament!
WUMT hosted the 5th annual Arch Invitational this past weekend. We want to thank all of the teams who came out to St. Louis and congratulate everyone on a great tournament! Wash U Team 633 took fourth place at the tournament, while Stephanie Adamakos, Laura Zimmermann and Jake Price all received attorney awards.
WUMT finished in the top 10 at the 2014 National Championship Tournament sponsored by the American Mock Trial Association. This marks the program's third consecutive top 10 finish!
For the third year, WUMT hosted an Opening Round Championship, with two teams competing at the tournament. Team 1128 finished in second place and secured a bid to the National Championship in Orlando, Florida. Team 1128 had several individual awards as well, with James Boyce (19 Prosecution Ranks) and Nicolas Dumas (17 Defense Ranks) taking home All-Nation Attorney Awards, and sophomore Oya Aktas (18 Defense Ranks and 16 Prosecution Ranks) and freshman Simona Brooks (16 Prosecution and 16 Defense Ranks) securing All-Nation Witness Awards! Team 1129's Stephanie Adamakos (17 Defense Ranks) also won an All-Nation Attorney Award!
WUMT carried on its five year tradition of having every team get out of Regionals! Teams 1128 and 1129 traveled to Kansas City, securing second and fifth place finished for two bids to ORCS. Team 1128's James Boyce (19 Defense Ranks and 18 Prosecution Ranks) and Nicolas Dumas (17 Defense Ranks) and Team 1129's Stephanie Adamakos (17 Defense Ranks) received All-Region Attorney Awards, while Adamakos (16 Prosecution Ranks) and 1128's Simona Brooks (18 Defense Ranks) received All-Region Witness Awards! Team 1584 competed at the Joliet Regional, finishing in fourth place there. Freshmen Erin Gaffaney (17 Defense Ranks) and Gianna Santoro (17 Prosecution Ranks) each took home All-Region Attorney Awards!
WUMT brought two teams to Vanderbilt's Commodore Classic. Team 1128 finished in fifth of more than 25 teams at the tournament. James Boyce (19 Prosecution Ranks) received an Outstanding Attorney Award, while Jake Price (18 Prosecution Ranks) and Simona Brooks (17 Prosecution Ranks) received Outstanding Witness Awards!
Team 1128 was invited to UClassic, UCLA's annual tournament. The team enjoyed the fantastic weather and some good mock trial, while Jake Price (18 Prosecution Ranks) and Simona Brooks (17 Prosecution Ranks) took home Outstanding Witness Awards!
